Rise Against Hunger | District Conference Review

Yesterday evening, over one hundred folks from across our district showed up to help pack meals for the hungry. That included a few of our own! We worked together to pack 10,152 meals to send to those who face food insecurity across the world through a high energy, fun-filled, event called “Rise Against Hunger.”

Most notably to me, this event demonstrated what’s possible when the body of Christ comes together beyond the walls of our local churches. We are connected as a denomination through more than our apportionments and shared liturgies: we are connected missionally, too. And when we come together, we can do far more than we could ask or imagine.

This event took place during the yearly District Conference, a business meeting held to approve the district budget and leadership. Rather than simply keep it as a business meeting, we held a quick business session and then moved to missional service. I’m grateful to live in a district that can see beyond the simply strictures of our structure to be missionally engaged together.

My thanks to Jackson Goshorn, Karen Cheek, and Martha Wright, who came out to Sandersville UMC to participate in this event! Check out the pictures below.
