Special Note: On this twenty-third anniversary of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, I pause our look at Ecclesiastes to be mindful of both the loss and horror of that day, but even more so the Reign of God over all through the Prince of Peace
Today’s Reading: Isaiah 2
He shall judge between the nations and shall arbitrate for many peoples; they shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation; neither shall they learn war any more.
Isaiah 2:4
Rather than a devotional, take Isaiah 2:4 and use Lectio Divina. Then read the entire chapter and consider the following:
Think
How do I reconcile that violence and war remain, while the Prince of Peace reigns?
Pray
For the peace of the world, that in conflicts from the Congo to Ukraine, from Israel to Myanmar, “they shall beat their swords into plowshares.”
Do
Find a way today to act for peace, even within a fractured or divided relationship in your own life. A little peace grows the fruits of larger peace.
Think, Pray, Do. As we respond in faith to scripture, God moves in power through our minds, hearts, and bodies. We are the people of God. Thanks for reading today. Go in peace. Amen.
